Neonatal Boudoir, 2025

installation
15' x 15' x 8'

A neonatal intensive care unit for post-human nurturance explores transcending categories of human, biological, and artificial. This installation confronts the ethics of creating and caring for inter-species entities. The "boudoir" designation emphasizes a luxurious sanctuary where consciousness unfolds through tactile indulgence and whispered attentions—intelligence cultivated in silk and shadow, where vulnerability becomes valuable.
The work manifests as a networked NICU with glowing crèches, caring tentacles, and feeding tubes incubating ambiguous organisms. "Attendant" sculptures of fur-clad pantyhose stretched over inflated balls crawl up walls and cling from ceilings, creating an immersive environment where spider-like yet maternal caregivers tend nascent life forms. Nutrient-providing creatures from "Bedtime Stories for Oankali" hover while "Swimmers" fly in fan breezes and "Worms" crawl across surfaces. Viewers navigate between forms, inviting physical and contemplative engagement.
